This model woodland has two paths around the loch, one is a little over 1km and is suitable for wheelchairs, and the other is about two and half, and has uneven gravel and earth surface with exposed tree roots. Several steep slopes and some flights of wooden steps as well as narrow and muddy sections.

The reed filled lake and a boat house. It is splendid in Autumn, with its trees all hues of red and yellow.

Forestry Scotland has a fantastic route card at https://forestryandland.gov.scot/media/jpfprvxz/fls-routecard-tayfp-faskally.pdf

Photography

When to shoot

Shooting in Autumn gives an incredible rich red and yellow background. Id also go early to try and catch the morning mist on the lake.

Tips

What to Capture on Camera

The obvious thing to photograph is the boat house on the edge of the lake. The rest of the model woodland is very picturesque too on a good day

Accessibility

One of the shorter of the two paths is wheelchair accessible, however the other is a little more uneven and steep.

Food and Drink

Pitlochry is a few minute drive away, and has a wide selection of food and drink available.

Transport

Faskally forest is just off the B8019, about 1 mile north-west of Pitlochry.

There is a sign for ‘Faskally’ if heading north on the A9. If heading south, follow the turn-off for ‘Pitlochry’ then subsequent signs for ‘Faskally’.

There is parking at the woodland. This is paid for parking, see  https://forestryandland.gov.scot/visit/forest-parks/tay-forest-park/faskally for up to date information
