The Crannog Centre

After the significant fire in 2021. The Crannog Centre2 moved across the loch to Dalerb. They have upgraded to a 4 hectare site, with a museum full of Iron Age finds. They are very friendly individuals, who will show you what Iron Age life on Loch Tay would have been like.

When to shoot

This was a lucky shot, I was having a late lunch nearby, and an inversion came in over the lock. I grabbed my camera and took the shot.

Unfortunately you cant take this any more as anything above the platform has burnt away.

Tips

Check the weather, the inversions can be just down a the side of a small part of the loch. The inversions are low level fog that rolls in and can burn off fairly quickly. These inversions are more common in Winter, when the mist and fog become trapped in the cooler air low down.

Using a website like AccuWeather 3 for more information about the weather, and prediction of rain in the short term

What to Capture on Camera

The shot above is now impossible, if you want to try, then the base is still there. There is a new Crannog being built nearby at Dalerb.

Facilities

Food and Drink

There is a small cafe at the end of the beach at Kenmore. There are more shops and bars in the town which is about 100m away.

Transport

This area doesnt have the best public transport, but if you are staying in Kenmore this is a short walk.

Kenmore is just off the A827 when heading out from Aberfeldy.
