This waterfall and bridge are a very well hidden gem in Glen Lyon. It is difficult to see due to the trees between the road and the river. Even knowing where it is it is easy to miss. It is a bit of a hop down the bank to get a photo like this through the trees.

Allt da Ghob

The waterfall is nealy 700ft in height, and is spectacular after heavy rain fall or snow melt. At the bottom of the falls is a parapet-less Roman Bridge, which is a stone-arched bridge of medieval origin.

When to shoot

The waterfall will be more impressive just after heavy rain or snow melt. I would recommend autmn or winter for this photo. Autumn to have beautiful yellows and reds of leaves. Winter, a clearer view through the trees to the bridge and waterfall.

What to Capture on Camera

The centerpiece of this photo is the bridge. There are no permits needded to shoot. Please make sure you car is as far off the road as is safe to do so.

This photo was taken with a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. It’s cropped to 84%, but without cropping, it would be about a 115mm shot. I took it across the river, between the trees, from the river bank.

There was no path down to the river bank. If you want to avoid the trees, you will need to get very low to, or in the river. Please be careful.

Facilities

Food and Drink

There are no facilities here, this is a tiny widening in the road. There is the Glenlyon Tea Room1, about 8 miles towards Bridge of Balgie. I would definitely recommend a stop, with some tea and cake after a successful shoot.

Transport

For this one you are going to need a car, it is in the middle of nowhere. This area is not well served by public transport.
